Frequently Asked
Questions Regarding Premium Bets
1
How does the 5 day free trial work?
When
you sign up for the free trial a PayPal subscription is created but no money
is charged to your account. You will start receiving all the selections as
sent to all subscribers and proofed to Racing Index. After 5 days you
will be contacted by PayPal and have the option to either cancel the
subscription (at no cost to yourself), or pay £25 to continue the
subscription.
After
that you will be presented with the same options every month, either
continue or cancel the subscription.

How are the Stakes Determined?
The advised stakes
are what I actually place as bets myself. I operate a number of
different selection methods, and each one has its own staking plan. In
general, on each day a method is successful the stakes are increased the
following day, and each day a method loses money the stakes are reduced
the following day. For most of my
methods I am aiming for a fixed profit per bet each day, so for a
backing system the shorter the price the
bigger the stake, which I calculate with a spreadsheet.

What are the BoG bookies that are mentioned in the e-mails?
BoG
means Best Odds Guaranteed, and what this means is that if you take an early
price, and the starting price is higher you get paid at the starting price.
I place all my back bets with one of these bookies. I cannot emphasise
strongly enough how important this is. One recent genuine example tells you
why. I advised a bet of approx £12 to win on Con Artist at decimal odds of
3.5 at 1030am. The horse won at an SP of 7/1 (8.0 in decimals), so if I had
not used a BoG bookie I would have been £54 worse off. This sort of thing
happens nearly every day.
Of
course often you take an early price and the SP is lower, but you still get
paid out at your early price. So by using a BoG bookie you have the best of
both worlds. What this means overall is that my actual profit is better
than that quoted at Racing Index as I always either get SP or more, and
Racing Index quotes all returns at SP.
I have
accounts with about 6 of the BoG bookies, and use OddsChecker
to find the one with the best price to place my bet. Unfortunately they
don’t start pricing up a days’ racing until about 1030, so when my e-mails
are sent out I can only use Betfair prices to calculate stakes. I know some
subscribers need to have their e-mails before they go to work so that’s why
it’s sent before 0700 on week-days. I personally put my bets on at about
1100 using best prices at that time. On Saturday’s and Sunday’s when I send
the e-mails out later you can see how this works.
All
the BoG bookies give free bets when you open an account so you really cannot
lose out by having accounts with all of them.

Is it possible to receive just the Back Bets?
A
number of customers are not comfortable with Lay Bets, and would prefer to
just place Back Bets. As a result I am going to set up the option to
receive either back or lay bets only, or both for a reduced subscription.
One
thing I would add is that I suspect quite a lot of Betfair customers never
place a lay bet, but it really is quite easy to do, and is not really any
different to having a back bet. In fact in a two horse race (or a tennis
match) there is no difference at all between a back bet and a lay bet other
than the mechanics of placing the bet.

Why does the number of bets each day vary so much?
There
are a few reasons for this. Firstly, the total number of race meetings
varies quite a lot, there can be as few as 2 or as many as 10 or so on Bank
Holidays. Secondly some of my selection methods are specific to certain
forms of racing, ie flat, jumps or AW, and the number of these varies during
the year. Thirdly, some of my methods depend on certain features of
specific types of race, and there may be no suitable races on a particular
day.
There
will be very few days with no bets (probably less than 1 a month). If I can
get onto the Betfair website I even continue sending selections out when I’m
on holiday, and I do actually try to go somewhere where I can do this, but
there may be times when I cannot and this will be advised at the time.
